The BMW Foundation Herbert Quandt Mourns the Loss of Carl-August Graf von Kospoth.
Carl-August Graf von Kospoth, director of the Eberhard von Kuenheim Foundation of BMW AG since 2009 and director of the BMW Foundation Herbert Quandt since 2016, passed away on October 25, 2017, at the age of 52, after a brief and severe illness.
With the passing of Carl-August, we have lost a wonderful colleague and a good friend. He was a special person who won the hearts of all who met him through his respect of others, his interest in trying out new paths, and his ability to inspire. He worked successfully and with great passion to find the right lever for social change.
His desire to maximize impact drove every project he undertook. Within eight years, he succeeded in shaping the Eberhard von Kuenheim Foundation into a recognized institution in the German foundation sector. The Foundation’s projects in the fields of education, work, and sustainable action are landmarks pointing the way to effective and sustainable solutions to current social issues.
A special interest of Carl-August Graf von Kospoth was the topic of impact investing. A pioneer in this field, he made impact investing a key issue for the BMW Foundation Herbert Quandt and excelled in collaborating with other foundations, intermediaries, and social enterprises. It is tragic that he cannot develop further his plans in the future.
Carl-August Graf von Kospoth embodied all the qualities that, for us, define a Responsible Leader: He was a dedicated leader who took on social responsibility and thus contributed to positive change. His active role in uniting the two foundations of BMW AG will remain his legacy.
We appreciate the years we spent together and will honor his memory. His optimism and his humor, his openness to new ideas, and his bright smile will remain with us.
Our deepest sympathy goes to his wife and three children.
