About Sabine Porn

In recent years, Sabine Porn has been mostly known by her voice – as a host of Info-Radio at Rundfunk Berlin-Brandenburg (rbb), she reported on current affairs. Her passion, however, is seeing the bigger picture. For seven years, she worked as a producer for ZDF in Singapore. During that time, she traveled to Afghanistan, Pakistan, India, Indonesia, Thailand, Indochina, Australia, and New Zealand – a huge area to be covered by a small team that was permanently on the road. This experience gave Sabine a travel bug and instilled in her a great curiosity about those parts of the world that are not permanently in the public spotlight.

After studying German literature, journalism, and political science at Freie Universität Berlin, Sabine began her journalistic career in the early 1980s as a court reporter for the daily taz. She subsequently worked for the Sender Freies Berlin (SFB) – first as a writer for the station’s youth radio, later as an editor and host of the Zeitfunk program and, from 1997, of Info-Radio. Her focus was on foreign and security policy, and her career highlights included her deployment as a radio correspondent to Pakistan in late 2001 after the start of the War in Afghanistan.

After having spent almost three decades in public broadcasting, Sabine Porn joined the BMW Foundation Herbert Quandt to work in the field of Global Dialogue. Her wanderlust and her interest in the big picture are still alive; today, however, she no longer “simply” reports on it, but helps develop and organize dialogue formats that contribute to a better understanding and, hopefully, to social change.

Sabine likes to cook – for friends; and she likes to talk – also without a mike. Born in West Berlin, she cannot imagine living in any other city in Germany than in Berlin.
