About Thomas Röhrl
Thomas is passionate about soccer. After initially taking to the BMW Foundation Herbert Quandt field as an intern, he has since September 2019 been a regular of the Foundation’s Munich team in the program area of Invest.
Raised in Regensburg, Thomas has a soft spot not only for ball games but also for the topics of human rights and economics. He is particularly interested in the sustainable transformation of the business and financial sector through impact-oriented investments.
He left his home turf for his master’s and moved to Berlin where he completed his studies in nonprofit management and public governance. His thesis dealt with the topic of impact investing in the German foundation sector and analyzed the tension between mission fulfilment and return trend. In addition, Thomas worked with the “Welcome to Football” program of the German Children and Youth Foundation.
Thomas began his professional career in business by training as a management assistant in office communication. After studying public law, he gained first work experiences in the public and nonprofit sector through an internship at the Berlin Senate in the field of labor market and vocational training policies and wrote his bachelor’s thesis on the legal and political implementations of the Geneva Convention on Refugees. As a student employee in the Human Resources department of the organization Ärzte ohne Grenzen e.V. (Doctors Without Borders), he was also able to bring his enthusiasm to the topic of human rights. He worked there for three years.
After eight years away, he moved back to the Bavarian capital, not least because of his home team in Munich-Giesing. In addition to his passion for soccer, Thomas loves to travel in Europe – especially to Barcelona, where he regularly visits friends. He also loves photography, art, and music.
