By venture philanthropy we mean the approach to provide organizations not only with financial support but also with diverse non-financial resources such as staff members, networks or pro bono consultancy over an extended period of time. The BMW Foundation Herbert Quandt wants to raise awareness of and establish venture philanthropy as an effective social investment and funding instrument not only in the Foundation space, but also in the public and private sectors.

To this end, we pursue different strategies. On the one hand, the Foundation itself applies venture philanthropy principles in its collaborations with nonprofit organizations and social businesses. In addition, we support national and international intermediaries in the field of venture philanthropy. For these intermediaries significantly help increase the impact of successful civil society and social business organizations.

The Foundation has supported the growth and programs of major international associations such as the European Venture Philanthropy Association (EVPA) or the Asian Venture Philanthropy Network (AVPN).
