Glimpses of an Uncertain Future: New Art Exhibition on Prater Island

May 13, 2025 - 2 min read

In April 2025, a new art exhibition opened at the BMW Foundation’s Munich office on Prater Island with a well-attended vernissage. Curated by Mon Müllerschön and Timur Lukas and featuring 16 artists from Munich and Augsburg, "Fragments of a Fragile Future" addresses the topic of fragility in our time.

“Fragile” means being vulnerable. “Fragments” refers to the fact that we can see parts of the future but don’t fully understand them yet. The title suggests a feeling of incompleteness and possible danger. It highlights the fragile and complex parts of our present and future. The exhibition approaches this theme from different perspectives, engaging with personal fragility, social divisions, and environmental destruction.
The art works on display include drawings and paintings that use soft strokes to reflect on uncertainty about the future while photographs highlight the impact of resource exploitation and human actions on nature. These works reveal how delicate our ecosystems can be; they also point out the enormous consequences of human behavior.Other works exploring the human image seek to address a future influenced by technological, social, and existential changes. The exhibition shows glimpses of an uncertain future and the challenges that still lie ahead. The two curators thought it was important to choose a topic that concerns us all. With their expertise in the local art scene and years of curatorial experience, they want to raise questions and deepen our understanding of current challenges and possible solutions.
