To balance society, ecology, and economy, it takes new business models that are both sustainable and scalable. We are driving their development – acting as scouts who promote innovative concepts at an early stage and strengthen the ecosystem that can contribute to their success.

As early as 2013, and especially in Latin America, we have given support to the movement of B Corps (benefit corporations), thousands of which exist worldwide. The primary aim of B Corps is to make business more inclusive and sustainable. In order to prove that they do not only operate in a transparent and responsible manner but also comply with the highest environmental and social standards, they submit to a certification process.

We support the Stiftung Verantwortungseigentum as well as Purpose – two organizations that aim to raise the profile of the concept of purpose-oriented “steward ownership,” which can help transform the economy. Steward-owned companies are not controlled by absentee or foreign owners and do not strive for profit as an end in itself. Instead, they are led by entrepreneurs that see profit as a means to achieving the real purpose of the company. This purpose can be ensuring particularly good working conditions or making a contribution to environmental protection.

“Our aim is an economy that serves people and society. Here, new forms of company ownership are of crucial importance. The BMW Foundation Herbert Quandt has recognized the potential of steward ownership early on and makes it possible for us as a foundation to support this understanding of ownership.” – Armin Steuernagel, Executive Director of the Stiftung Verantwortungseigentum

Our professional and financial contributions also made possible the establishment of the Social Entrepreneurship Netzwerk Deutschland (SEND e.V.). As one of the first foundations we have also collaborated for many years with the global Impact Hub network and other social and impact entrepreneur networks; we thus help move sustainable business models from the niche to the mainstream. Finally, through different event formats – such as, for example, the Impact Salons on Munich’s Prater Island – we offer networking, discussion, and information platforms.

Impact Salon – Corporate Impact Innovation

The restrictions imposed by the Corona crisis are a major challenge to the economy in Germany, Europe and the whole world. How do we use the lessons learned from this to make our economic system more sustainable? These are the questions that companies, start-ups, investors and social actors are asking themselves.

The Impact Salon promotes the discourse between the sectors. The focus is on the role of companies and start-ups in economic and social change. With an opening speech by Prof. Dr. Maja Göpel, Secretary-General of the German Advisory Council on Global Change, different personalities will address the following question in a total of four salons: How can responsible leadership contribute to a peaceful, just and sustainable world in line with the UN’s 2030 Agenda?
