Ulrich Wilhelm, born 1961 in Munich, is director general of the Bavarian Broadcasting Corporation. He has been a member of the Board of Trustees of the BMW Foundation Herbert Quandt since 2016.
Ulrich Wilhelm earned a journalism diploma from the German School of Journalism. While studying law at the Universities of Passau and Munich, he worked as a freelance journalist, lastly in the main editorial office of the Bavarian Broadcasting Corporation. In 1991, the fully qualified lawyer joined the civil service, working first in the Bavarian Ministry of the Interior. In 1993, Wilhelm moved to the Bavarian State Chancellery, where he became press spokesperson of the Bavarian Minister President and the Bavarian Government in 1999. In 2004, Wilhelm became head administrator of the Bavarian Ministry of Science, Research, and the Arts.
In 2005, he moved to Berlin to become director of the Press and Information Office of the Federal Government and spokesperson of the German government in the rank of a Permanent State Secretary. In 2010, he was elected director general of the Bavarian Broadcasting Corporation by the Broadcasting Council.
